Is Codex down?

Check the Codex surface you used: Web, API, CLI, VS Code, or Codex in ChatGPT Desktop. A problem confined to one extension version or one model needs a different check from a reported service incident.

No active official incident reported for Codex

The checked components have no active notice. Your account or region may still have an issue.

Public user reports

GitHub Issues and any other named sources in the live card are user reports. A report about a different Codex client or operating system may not apply to yours. Counts describe matching original posts in the checked sources, not affected users.

These are posts from the sources named below. They are user reports, not confirmed service incidents.

Partial report coverage. Counts cover the most recent 100 original issues returned by the source.

3 matching original posts in the past 60 minutes; 72 in the past 24 hours, across openai/codex Issues.

What to do now

If an official incident affects your client: Save the prompt, partial output and files already written. Check the official event before retrying. For a task that may have changed files or external systems, inspect the result first so a second run does not repeat work.

If no relevant incident is listed: If Codex says Selected model is at capacity, check the capacity guide before assuming your allowance is empty. If a task disconnects, inspect files and actions already completed before retrying; use the stream guide. If only VS Code fails, record the extension version and exact message. DisposableStack is not defined has its own guide; a panel that cannot open has a separate UI startup guide. A client restart is a reasonable first try, not proof of a server outage. If the error occurred during context compaction, save the current diff and use the remote compact guide.

If official data is unavailable: Check OpenAI Status directly, keep the exact wording and note whether you used Web, CLI, VS Code or desktop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Codex say a model is at capacity when I still have usage left?

This message says the selected model could not take your request. It does not say your usage allowance is empty. Check the exact-message guide and the status of the client you used.

A task disconnected halfway through. Is it safe to retry?

First inspect what the task already wrote or submitted. A disconnected stream does not prove that every action was undone. Save the error and use the disconnect guide before running the task again.

Can this page tell whether my VS Code extension is broken?

It can show an official incident involving the VS Code extension, but it cannot inspect your installation. If Web or CLI works while VS Code fails, note the extension version and use the guide for the exact message. Recent GitHub reports describe both a DisposableStack error and a panel startup failure; neither report alone confirms a service outage.

Do GitHub reports confirm a Codex outage?

No. They are individual reports. Compare the client, model, date and exact message with your own case, then check the official status entry for confirmation.
